Coronavirus: Town councils of Stamford, Oakham, Market Deeping, Bourne, Uppingham and Deeping St James Parish Council are waiting to make a decision on future meetings

Town and parish councils across the area are waiting to make a decision on future meetings in the wake of coronavirus.

Stamford town clerk, Patricia Stuart-Mogg, said: "We will be moving forward with the town council meeting as normal which is being held on Tuesday March 24.

"At that meeting, a decision will be taken to see what will happen subsequently after that."

Oakham town clerk Allison Greaves said there was a conference call with Rutland County Council tomorrow (March 18) and the town council would be holding a further meeting on Wednesday March 25 to discuss what measures needed to be put in place.

Deeping St James Parish council said they were waiting for guidance from regional bodies before making a decision about future meetings.

Parish clerk, Julie Fortnum, said: "It's business as usual here at the moment.

"I'm just waiting on an e-mail from the Lincolnshire Association of Local Councils and they were going to recommend what we should do.

"We've have not been told to do anything different and are just waiting for guidance.

"On Thursday, we've got two committee meetings and they will go ahead at the moment unless we have less than one third of members at them."

Market Deeping deputy town clerk, Claire Lydford, said a decision on future town council meetings will be made 'very soon'.

Bourne Town Council are meeting tonight (March 17) to discuss future meetings.

Town clerk Ian Sismey, said: "It may well be tonight is the last full council meeting we have for some time.

"We are going to set out our stall tonight and see what help we can offer our local residents."

Uppingham Town Council have cancelled a planning committee meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 18) but the amenities committee will go ahead as planned at 6.30pm.

It is hoped an emergency council meeting will be held on Wednesday March 25 to discuss what the town council does next.
