Coronavirus: UppWatch and Uppingham Hopper Bus to help people

Leaflets detailing a community help scheme will be distributed to every home in a town by this weekend in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The UppWatch scheme, which launched in Uppingham about three years ago, is offering help to anyone who is self-isolating or in confinement.

Scheme coordinator Ron Simpson, said: "The idea is that people who need help with shopping, need to go to the surgery or may just need befriending can get it from this scheme.

"We've decided to take the opportunity to update and re-print the leaflets and get them delivered to every home in the town by the weekend in light of coronavirus.

"We've got 15 volunteers that have been recruited by Janet Thompson and it's great there are people in the town who want to help out."

The Uppingham Hopper Bus is going to run to normal timetable in the morning but will move to an on-demand service in the afternoon to help deliver shopping to people.

To get help from UppWatch, call or text 07710 328469.
