Stamford Country Market which runs on alternate Fridays at Stamford Arts Centre will close on April 1 - and unfortunately it’s not an April Fools prank.
The organisers of the market said the closure was down to shopping habits changing and the market losing money.
The market is part of a national cooperative and has been running since the 1970s, selling home-made cakes, preserves, produce and crafts.
Honorary treasurer Tricia Robins said it had been a “privilege” to serve and get to know the many customers, “many of whom we count as friends and who we will greatly miss”.
She thanked everyone who had supported the market, especially the women in the tourist office.
The remaining markets will be between 9.30am and midday on March 18, March 25 and finally on April 1.
