A volunteer doctor and his wife will be hoping to raise life-saving funds for the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, Emics by donning their running shoes.

Dr Leon Roberts, 37, and his wife Amie, 33, from Colsterworth, will be running the Lincoln 10km on March 22 to help raise money for Emics, a charity run entirely by volunteers who attend emergency incidents to support staff from the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Dr Roberts who is a Senior Medical Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps and works as a GP at Kendrew Barracks in Cottesmore has been volunteering for the charity for the past eight years, responding to emergencies across Rutland, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, helping to save people’s lives.

Dr Roberts, who was awarded an MBE for his work in 2010 said: “It is fantastic to be fundraising with Amie who is so loyal with her support to me when I am away from home responding to emergencies with Emics in the local area.

“We are both really looking forward to the 10km run and would value any support and donations to Emics in the run up to the March 22.”

Amie, who is a midwife at Peterborough City Hospital said: “Emics are updating clinical equipment this year and vital charity funds are need to finance this, doing the Lincoln 10km is a great opportunity to get running whilst supporting the charity.”
