Covid-19 cases rise sharply in South Kesteven and Rutland, but no new deaths recorded

The number of people testing positive for Covid-19 rose by almost 50 per cent in South Kesteven last week.

In the seven days to September 29, there were 618 confirmed positive results across the district, a rise of 49.3 per cent on the previous week.

Of these, 45 were recorded in Stamford, 61 were from Bourne and 20 from Market Deeping.

It took the total cases throughout the pandemic in South Kesteven to 13,326.

The district's seven-day infection rate rose from 206 per 100,000 people to 393, according to figures released on Wednesday by Public Health England.

The figure is above the UK national average of 354.2 per 100,000 people.

There were 148 new cases recorded in Rutland, a rise of 29.8 per cent on the previous seven days, as the infection rate there climbed from 247 per 100,000 to 346.

A total of 3,288 confirmed positive results have been recorded in Rutland during the pandemic.

The figures for the last week are in contrast with the previous seven days when the infection rate dropped both regionally and nationally.

However, there were no new deaths recorded in either South Kesteven or Rutland between September 23 and 29.

Sixty-six people have died within 28 days of a positive test in Rutland during the pandemic.

The figure remained at 286 in South Kesteven after six deaths were recorded in September.

In terms of vaccinations, 104,121 have received both doses in South Kesteven, while the figure stands at 29,794 in Rutland.
