A teenager has been arrested after an armed robbery at a newsagent.

Police were called to Martin’s in High Street East, Uppingham, just before 1pm yesterday (Wednesday) after reports a robber had threatened the cashier with what was believed to have been a knife before stealing cash from the till and running away.

Police have since arrested an 18-year-old man from the Uppingham area.

Insp Kam Mistry, of Rutland police, said: “This was an isolated, one-off incident. Investigations are ongoing and we are appealing for witnesses to the robbery to come forward.”

No-one was injured in the robbery and police are still trying to work out how much money was taken.
