A TAKEAWAY restaurant could face a £20,000 fine after two illegal immigrants were found working there.

Officers from the UK Border Agency raided Hot and Spice in North Street, Bourne, just after 7pm on Thursday last week after receiving a tip-off.

Immigration checks found two members of staff, a man of 42 from Pakistan and a 31-year-old from Afghanistan, had entered the UK illegally.

The 31-year-old is still in detention and the 42-year-old has been released on immigration bail.

Hot and Spice has to prove it carried out the correct checks or face a fine of up to £10,000 per illegal worker.

The Mercury contacted Hot and Spice and a man who answered the phone said he was the manager but refused to be give his name.

He said: “One of the men had given ID saying he was from the European Union, which he gladly provided. This has now transpired to be a fake ID.

“The other person wasn’t working here.

“He was living in the flat above the takeaway.”
