A CAMPAIGN has been launched to combat metal theft.

Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers has asked for the help of Lincolnshire and Rutland communities to target thieves who cost the UK economy more than £750m a year by stealing pipes and outside taps from homes, lead from church roofs and war memorials.

The charity wants people to report such thefts. Senior regional manager Sue Langley said: “We want to scrap the metal thieves and the local public can help us to do this by passing on any information they might have on those committing this crime by getting in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Call 0800 555111 to report a theft.
