POLICE have released CCTV footage of a cyclist they want to question about a series of arson attacks on an elderly couple.

Peter and Sylvia Cox, of High Street, Castle Bytham, were lucky to survive a firebomb attack on their cottage in the early hours of May 4.

Police have released footage of a cyclist seen in the village at about 2.30am on the morning of the fire.

They have also issued pictures of the remains of a firework which may have been used to start the blaze.

Det Insp Dave Swan said: “I appreciate that the CCTV footage is of poor quality but it may just jog someone’s memory and encourage them to contact us with the name of a suspect.

“With regard to the photograph of the firework I would ask anyone who has any information about its origins, or suggestions as to who may have bought it or owned it to contact us.”

Mr Cox, 82, and his 74-year-old wife were alerted to the blaze by their greyhound Toby and had to climb out of their bedroom window on to a neighbour’s ladder.

But Toby, who was recovering from an injury and would not go climb the stairs to get to the couple, was killed in the fire.

The couple have been targeted four times in 18 months. The firebombs that were thrown at the outside of their house the first three times did not ignite.

They are now staying in a secret location.
