A PENSIONER was tricked into handing over £30 by a conman.

The elderly man believed he was getting five expensive watches in return for giving £30 to an Italian man in Burghley Centre car park, Bourne, yesterday.

Police are now appealing for more information.

The Italian man approached the pensioner at 4.30pm and asked for directions to the A1 and said that he needed petrol.

He then pushed five boxes of gold and silver watches into the pensioner’s hands.

The pensioner told police that he felt obliged to help and handed over £20.

The Italian man then asked for a further £10 which was also given to him.

Police say the watches were poor quality and had fake paper dials.
