A GUN was stolen from a car in Sykes Lane, Empingham, on Sunday.
The Midland Gun Company self-loading 12 bore shotgun had been dismantled by the owner and was stolen along with cartridges and a rucksack containing camouflage nets.
Police are appealing for information on the incident which happened at about 4pm.
PC Mark White from Leicestershire Police said: “The victim left the gun dismantled under the seats but unfortunately someone has seen the rucksack on the seat and broken into the vehicle to discover the weapon and cartridges.
“I would urge anyone who has seen any of the items discarded in the area in the last couple of days to contact the police.
“Did you see someone acting suspiciously in the area on Sunday afternoon or do you know who may be responsible for this incident?
“We would also advise licensed firearms holders to always ensure that they do not leave firearms unattended in vehicles and if they do have to leave the item in the car that they dismantle it and take a working section of the firearm with them, so the remaining parts are useless to anyone who may come across them.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 0116 222 2222.
