POLICE are investigating a cash machine robbery which may be linked to three other thefts.

Thieves broke into Norwich and Peterborough Building Society in Market Place, Market Deeping, at about 3am this morning (Tuesday).

They smashed the front door and broke into the back of the machine, stealing a small amount of cash. It is not yet known how much has been taken.

The branch is closed while police investigate the scene and damage to the front door is repaired.

A Norwich and Peterborough spokesman said: “There were no customers in the branch at the time and we are happy that no-one was injured during the incident.

“A limited amount of damage was done internally and while the branch remains closed we hope that service will be resumed as quickly as possible.”

Police believe the incident may be linked to three other thefts that took place across Lincolnshire last night. A cash machine in Ruskington, a petrol station in Gainsborough and a convenience store in Claypole were all targeted between 11pm and 3am.

Det Insp Suzanne Davies said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are looking at the possibility that these offences are linked.

“It is vital that anyone who saw these crimes take place, or who saw vehicles in the area at the time of the offences, gets in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Please call us even if you think the information you have is insignificant – it could be vital to our investigation.”
