VOLUNTEERS are needed to help monitor whether police are following the rules with people in custody.
Leicestershire Police Authority needs to recruit a team of independent custody visitors who will keep an eye on the welfare of those being detained by visiting them and reporting back to the authority.
Chairman Barrie Roper said: “It is important that members of the public have confidence in the system and our independent custody visitors ensure that a totally impartial check is carried out on the way police officers undertake their duties with regard to the rights of those held in custody.”
Volunteers must be over 18 years old and have no direct involvement in the criminal justice system.
Anyone interested can apply at Leicestershire Police Authority, St Johns, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 2BX, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, July 29.
