Cycle safe during darker evenings
Police have warned cyclists to make sure they are visible when riding on winter nights.
Officer Jon Putnam, who serves the Bourne and Billingborough area, said: “As we experience longer nights and poor weather, we would like to remind cyclists to ensure that they have lights fitted to their bikes, and to wear high visibility clothing.
“At this time of year we often receive reports of cyclists riding on dark roads, wearing dark clothing and without any lights. Regardless of the safety implications, it is also illegal to use a bike at night without displaying lights, and attracts a £30 penalty if a cyclist is stopped by the police. We would far sooner you spend £20 on a set of lights, than £30 on a ticket.
“If you’re buying a bike for a loved one this Christmas, don’t forget to fit a set of lights to it.”
