A CYCLIST was airlifted to hospital yesterday (Monday) after he was thrown over a gate he had crashed into.
Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to Owston Woods, between Braunston and Owston, at 2.45pm, after a man riding a bicycle crashed and went over a gate, hitting his face on landing.
He suffered facial injuries in the accident.
The air ambulance arrived within five minutes and landed in a nearby field.
Paramedic Phil Bridle, who attended the incident, said: “The cyclist had bad facial injuries so as well as administering pain relief we had to ensure that his airway was kept open from the blood that was coming from his wound.
“We then immobilised him and flew him to the trauma centre at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.”
