A group of friends are ready to put on a show to entertain crowds in Uppingham this weekend in their first ever live performance.

Launch Dance Company is a group of six classically trained dancers based in Rutland and Northampton who have been dancing together since the age of four.

In August last year, they decided to form the company and after months of choreographing, rehearsing and making sure preparations are in place, they are set to perform in front of a packed audience at Uppingham Theatre tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Group member Francesca Wales, 27, who lives in West Lane, Seaton, said: “We formed the group this time last year and we’ve really had fun putting it all together.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the reaction of the audience.

“We keep running over everything in rehearsals just to make sure we’re ready and we’re hoping this show will be a real platform for us to grow.”

The debut show will be performed in two parts.

The first is called Ballet in Sneakers and is a recreation of Jerome Robbins’ Opus

Set in the streets of New York, a group of friends playfully celebrate their freedom through movement that blends jazz, ballet and ballroom to create a powerful, expressive, contemporary style.

The second part is called Unravel and explores the idea of human relationships, touching on first meetings, individuality, affection and letting go of boundaries. The contemporary style performance has been choreographed by the group.

The group consists of Francesca, Amie Brotherton, Amy Whearity, Kylie Hance, Olivia Beale and Theresa Manning.

The members are dance instructors and teach at local schools and groups.

Francesca added: “We’ve got lots of friends and family coming, as well as schools and other groups. We just can’t wait to get started.”

The doors open at 7.45pm tomorrow, with the show starting at 8.30pm.

Tickets can be bought on the door and are £7.50 and £6.50 for concessions.
