A GRAPHIC designer is keeping a closer eye than usual on his loose change following the release of his Olympic-themed 50p coin design.
Davey Podmore’s rowing design is now available to buy from the Royal Mint website for £2.99.
Davey, from Radcliffe Road, Stamford, is among 29 winners to have their design reproduced by the mint and the 38-year-old said he is cannot wait for the day when he comes across the coin now that it is in circulation.
Davey said: “I entered the competition just thinking I would give it a go but when I found out my design had been selected I was really really excited.
“It’s nice to know that something I have done will be out there and remembered as part of the Olympics.
“I’ve found a few of the other designs in my change but I’m waiting for that day when I see my own coin.”
As well as having his coin reproduced, Davey also won £1,000 and received a gold reproduction of his design and certificate for his efforts.
Davey is heading down to London for the games’ opening ceremony which starts tonight at 9pm.
He added: “I’m very excited about the Olympics. I was lucky enough to get tickets for the opening ceremony and the country seems to be getting behind it all now so it’s going to be great.”
