Tributes have been paid to a “lovely, fun loving” 22-year-old from Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, who was killed last week in a crash while riding his motorbike.

David Thorp died in the accident on the A151 flyover across the A1 at Colsterworth, just before 12.30pm on Thursday, January 28.

The accident came just a week after Mr Thorp had celebrated his 22nd birthday on January 22. He had forged a promising career as a greenkeeper at Stoke Rochford Golf Club, becoming an integral member of the team and known amongst colleagues and players as ‘Mr Fix-it’.

On behalf of the club, Captain Jeffrey Purdey said: “David joined us nearly three years ago as an apprentice greenkeeper, despite never having played the game.

“He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge about our course, its environment, its upkeep and the skills required to be a greenkeeper.

“It soon became apparent to Gareth, our head Greenkeeper, that to David it was more than just a job, he truly loved working at Stoke Rochford.

“David also brought transferable mechanical skills to the role, constantly tinkering with the machinery, affecting repairs and improving performance. “To Gareth, David had “something special” and was expected to go a long way in the greenkeeping fraternity.

“A lovely, fun loving lad, a bit of a joker who was always smiling and an integral part of the small greenkeeping team at Stoke Rochford, he will be sorely missed.

“It is a tragedy when someone so young is taken from us so unexpectedly.”

Many tributes have also been paid via the Journal Facebook page. Amanda Taylor Sharpe said: “Feel so much for the family. He’s the same age as my son. In fact he was at school with him.

“I can’t even think what his family are going through.”

Gemma Nugent said: “Such an amazing, loved person. RIP David x”.

Samantha Norman said: “Gutted that this happened to such a lovely and caring lad. RIP David x.”

Megan Jade Parker said: “I’m so sorry to hear! He was such a kind-hearted guy! Will be so sadly missed! R.I.P. David x”

“Another one taken to early in life God bless,” said Chris Kennedy.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident. They confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.
