SWIMMERS had extra reason to try their best at a county championship last weekend as they raised money for charity.
Members of Deepings Swimming Club took part in the Lincolnshire ASA County Championships, which was held on Saturday 17 in Louth.
For the first time, the swimmers were sponsored to take part in an effort to raise funds for the Yellow Beetle Challenge - an appeal by Mike Shattock, of Langtoft, to raise money for the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney, which is caring for his wife Sam.
Fiona Leadbeater is one of Mr Shattock’s neighbours and suggested the idea. Her daughters Phoebe, 11, and Eleanor, nine, are both members of the club.
She said: “I just thought it would be a nice thing to do for Mike and Sam. He was overwhelmed by the support and very impressed by the t-shirts we had made.
“The swimmers all did fantastically and achieved personal bests.”
Money is still being collected but it is hoped it will run into hundreds of pounds.
