A new generation of primary and secondary school teachers is all set to pass through a training programme in the Deepings.

People thinking of a career in teaching or those looking for a return to the education sector can find out more at a Train to Teach presentation hosted by staff from The Deepings School.

The shortage of high quality staff at both primary and secondary education levels is, to a large extent, due to our lack of proximity to universities - with the nearest being over an hour away

The event takes place at The Deepings School Conference Centre, Park Road, Deeping St James, on Tuesday, January 19 from 6.30pm until 8pm when there will be a short presentation about the teacher training programme, followed by a questions and answer session.

Assistant headteacher Nikki Benjamin, teacher training director at The Deepings School, said: “Nationally, teacher recruitment is becoming more and more of a challenge and this is magnified in sparsely populated rural and coastal settings.

“The shortage of high quality staff at both primary and secondary education levels is, to a large extent, due to our lack of proximity to universities - with the nearest being over an hour away.

“Therefore we are making a lot of schools across the south of Lincolnshire very happy by operating a Teacher Training Centre from The Deepings School, keeping our local talent in our local schools.”

Teacher training at the school was launched in September 2013, making “the class of 2016-17” the fourth group to undertake the programme at The Deepings School.

But they will be the first since The Deepings School became an official awarding body of Qualified Teacher Status, while its Supporting Returning Teachers programme is one of just 40 across the country.
