Barratt Homes recruits building buddies with school award scheme
A developer is engaging pupils in the construction process with a specially designed award programme.
Barratt Homes' Building Buddies Award aims to get children in Bourne interested in the industry and raise awareness of the variety of roles available in construction.
Bourne Elsea Park Primary School, located on the housebuilder’s development, is the latest school to commit to the scheme and will complete Building Buddies activities throughout the remainder of the academic year with 30 Year 5 pupils.
Building Buddies is broken down into four quarters and will teach young children about planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.
There will be a chance for them to enter various design and literature competitions for which the winners will be given their very own awards.
Pupils will also get the chance to name their own development and create a logo, as well learning about site safety to inform them of the dangers of building sites as they live on the doorstep of a live development.
In addition to this, the school will receive a coveted Building Buddies Award which will be presented to them at the end of the academic year.
Mark Cotes, managing director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Engaging people in the construction industry is at the forefront of our minds and we are delighted to be running this award scheme with Bourne Elsea Primary School pupils.
“Getting young children involved and interested in construction is extremely important to us, as we want to start inspiring the next generation of builders and tradespeople.
“We know from past experience at our developments that young children are fascinated by diggers and other construction machinery and this is something we always try to encourage.
“We look forward to working closely with Bourne Elsea Primary School across the rest of the academic year and seeing what creations they can come up with in each competition.”
