The Discover Rutland tourism committee is looking for new members with people encouraged to apply for a role if they would like to help promote the county.

The committee consists of representatives from various sectors of the tourism industry and works to showcase Rutland as a great destination for visitors and holiday makers.

The group is currently focused on six key areas: online promotion, events, a tourism guide, finance, marketing and membership.

Chairman of Discover Rutland Ed Burrows says the economic impact of tourism on Rutland has increased by more than six per cent in the last year with tourism now worth about £106m a year, demonstrating how important it is for the county.

He added: “We are currently looking for several new committee members to support our work and if anyone is interested in being part of this exciting industry through Discover Rutland, I’m more than happy to speak with them. Once we have a shortlist, the committee will speak with each candidate before reaching a final decision.”

The Discover Rutland committee meets every six weeks and works alongside Rutland County Council. The positions are voluntary but offer a chance to make a difference.

To apply, send a letter outlining the relevant experience, to: Mary Copley, Tourism Officer, Rutland County Council, Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6HP. Alternatively, e-mail: tourism@rutland.gov.uk. The closing date is February 26.
