Distraction burglary in Cedar Close, Uppingham




An 83-year-old man fell victim to a distraction burglar who claimed to be a salesman.

The man, who was in his 20s, called at a property in Cedar Close, Uppingham.

He was let inside and offered a cup of a tea and some cake by the occupant. While this was being prepared, £300 was taken from the occupant’s wallet.

The man then made an excuse and left the property before driving away in a silver car.

He was about 5ft 7ins, clean shaven, with a stocky build, brown hair and a scar on his right arm.

The incident happened at about 6.50pm on Thursday, May 13.

Det Con Sam Bates said: “This incident took place in a residential area in the early evening when people are likely to have been coming and going.

“We believe the man described had previously visited the property.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the man or the silver car in the area at the time, or anyone who may have captured the man or the car on CCTV or dash cam.”
