Bob and Carol Warters from Ketton in Rutland witness two rescues of refugees in the Mediterranean while on the P and O cruise ship Azura

A Ketton couple who witnessed two dramatic rescues in the Mediterranean, have praised the captain and crew of the cruise ship involved.

Bob and Carol Warters were passengers on the P&O cruise ship Azura last week when first it picked up 17 refugees in a small inflatable dingy off the Spanish coast and then was involved in rescuing more than 1,000 passengers and crew, including themselves, when they were stranded overnight in Monaco.

Both events made the national news back in the UK, though the reports’ accuracy left much to be desired, according to the pair, both retired journalists.
