Youngsters at Brooke Priory School were left star struck after a special visit from an international cricket star.
England bowler Stuart Broad, who is currently playing in this summer’s Ashes series, went back to his old school in Oakham to wish the under 11 cricket team best of luck in the finals of the Leicestershire Six-A-Side League while offering some wise words of advice.
And the luck paid off as the boys were crowned champions after beating Leicester school Abbey Primary School.
The team will receive their trophy at a ceremony in October.
Headteacher Elizabeth Bell said: “We are all so proud of the boys. They set themselves the target of winning a trophy and they have secured arguably the most prestigious title in Leicestershire.”
The school is also celebrating the success of pupil Oliver Drakard who won a science award.
He came first in the imaginative section of the Centenary Science Competition at The University of Leicester after submitting a piece of mouldy cheese to be viewed under a microscope as part of the event.
Oliver won a bag of scientific goodies and a book voucher for his efforts. Mrs Bell said: “It is fantastic to win such a prestigious competition and I am extremely proud of Oliver.”
