A PRIMARY school is the first in the county to receive a gold Sing Up award.

Exton and Greetham Primary School in Garden Road, Exton, is celebrating after winning the award, which recognises and celebrates schools which put singing at the heart of school life.

The youngster’s voices can be heard singing throughout the day from welcome songs in the morning, singing as part of lessons and in assemblies; to the school choir and the Sing Squad, which leads singing on the playground at playtimes and lunchtimes.

Music co-ordinator Megan Davis said: “Singing for us is about enjoyment and enthusiasm. It is something everyone can do, and it creates a feel good factor when you hear singing around the school. “The children really enjoy singing at special occasions.”

The school changed its name from Exton Primary School in April to reflect the number of children it takes from Greetham.
