A SCHOOL’S rowing team has scooped gold and silver medals in a competition.

Fourteen pupils from Charles Read Academy in Corby Glen travelled to the Priory Ruskin Academy in Grantham to compete in the team cup rowing contest last month.

They had to row for a fixed time depending on their age, and then their performance was ranked against the target distance for their age and gender.

Personal best performances were achieved by all of the Charles Read Academy rowers - and the team returned with three gold medals and one silver.

Year 7 pupil Mason Smith was one of the rowers who achieved gold. He recorded the outstanding performance of the day by rowing 523m in two minutes.

The school finished fourth in the team competition.

Dr Judith Jagger, who is head of Key Stage 4, was delighted with how they all did during the event.

She said: “It was a great team performance and the students supported each other very well during the whole competition.

“We are very proud of them.”
