PUPILS will be learning about renewable energy after having solar panels installed on their roof.
Arthur Mellows Village College at Glinton had the panels installed by Manor Solar to help cuts its bills and its carbon footprint.
Manor Roofing has also completed extensive re-roofing works at the school to improve insulation.
School spokesman Gary Wentworth said: “The school is trying to improve its green credentials and solar panels mean we can produce our own clean renewable energy and help to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
“The system’s energy monitoring tool will also be used as a lesson resource in subjects such as science, geography and design and technology to teach our students about sustainable energy.”
Managing director of Manor Solar Mark Cawood added: “This is the first installation of this kind of PV (photovoltaic) panel in the UK. It has come into the market to meet the needs of older buildings.
“They are light-weight which suits roofs with a low distributed roof load requirement and the simple snap-on mounts shortens the project time for installation.”
