A young mathematician is set for a busy summer of studying after scooping a place on two top summer school schemes.
Casterton Business and Enterprise College pupil Bob Cliffe has been invited to attend the UK Mathematics Trust’s summer scheme at Balliol College, University of Oxford, after putting in an impressive performance in a national maths challenge.
He is one of only 40 pupils in the country to be offered a place after he excelled in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge and the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad Paper where he was rewarded with a medal for his efforts.
Bob, 16, said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to spend a week at such a prestigious institution.
“I’m really looking forward to spending time with other people who have a passion for maths.”
He is also a member of the National Youth Orchestra and has been invited to attend their summer school as well.
Principal Victoria Crosher said: “We are delighted that Bob has this wonderful and unique opportunity to further his considerable skill in mathematics and he is able to take full advantage of these chances.”
