Year 9 pupils at Uppingham Community College have created large structures out of wood during an architecture workshop.

A group of 25 young people took part in the day, during which they were tasked with creating models large enough to stand inside.

After building the structures, the students were able to think about how to plan spaces for people to live and work in and how buildings are designed for strength and durability.

Teacher Tracey Foster said: “All the students enjoyed the day and thought the experience was a great way to work together in a team and think through solving problems together.

“This builds upon the design and technology curriculum at UCC and all the students who were present on the day will be continuing this field of study when they do GCSE design and technology next year.”

Training on the day was provided by the Architecture Workshops Association.
