South Witham Playgroup has closed after 36 years.

The closure last Friday, July 20, follows the village primary school on Water Lane, where the play group was based, becoming an academy.

Childminder Natalie Totty said the closure was the ‘end of an era’ for the village.

"The playgroup has been open for so long that generations of families have been cared for there.

"The key leaders from the beginning have nurtured, cared, created special memories and help build confidence and independence for the children, as well as support their families.

"On behalf of the community of South Witham a huge thank you is deserved to Carole Knight, Marie Mitchell and Judith Grindley, including the support helpers, over the past years for all their hard work and dedication."

At Friday’s closing ceremony, key leaders Carole, Marie and Judith also gave a fond farewell and thank you to all those who supported the playgroup over the decades.
