YOUNGSTERS at English Martyrs Primary School put down their pens for a day to meet their real life superheroes at Oakham Fire Station on Monday.
As part of their superheroes topic, foundation stage pupils at the school met firefighters at the station to hear all about their job.
The children also had the chance to sit in the fire engine, dress up in uniforms and wear firefighters’ helmets and ask the officers about what they do.
School administrator Jennifer Iden said: “It was all about the children meeting their real life superheroes and they had a fantastic time.
“It was quite exciting for them because they only usually see a fire engine when it’s out on call so it was really nice for them to meet the firefighters and see the engine up close.
“We would like to thank the fire station for making it so enjoyable.
“All the boys now want to be firemen.”
The pupils have also met nurses and police officers as part of the topic.
