Primary schools have closed for the day after three villages lost their water supply.

Residents of Billingborough, Horbling and Pointon woke up this morning (Tuesday) to find their taps were not working.

As a result both Billingborough Primary School and St Gilbert of Sempringham Primary School in Pointon have closed for the day.

Browns Primary School in Horbling is open as usual.

An Anglian Water spokesman said the problem was caused by an equipment failure at a nearby water treatment plant in Birthorpe at about 7.30am this morning. Engineers have since fixed the problem and water should be working its way back into the system.

The spokesman said the problem would have affected about 1,000 properties and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
