A book charting the success of a project to reintroduce ospreys to the country has been officially launched to the public.

A launch party for The Rutland Water Ospreys was held at the Lyndon Visitor Centre in Manton on Friday.

The book has been written by Rutland Water senior reserve officer Tim Mackrill, with contributions from reserve manager Tim Appleton and former project officer Helen McIntyre. And illustrations and pictures from field officer John Wright bring the book to life.

Mr Mackrill said the launch went very well and was well timed as three ospreys had returned to the reservoir in the past couple of weeks,

He added: “One of the things people liked was that we have managed to put a personal touch on the book as it is all our own experiences.”

The book is on sale through and orders have been coming in from Europe, the US and even one from Jamaica.

Mr Mackrill added: “We have had a lot of international interest which is great.”

All proceeds will go back into the osprey
