CHAMPAGNE receptions and mock wedding ceremonies will take place around the county next week as pubs, schools, clubs and neighbours celebrate the royal wedding.
The forthcoming marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton has inspired people to dust off their bunting and throw a party to mark the occasion on Friday, April 29.
Members of Ranksborough Polo Club are holding a garden party and there will be a street party hosted by Rutland Mencap at Oakham Castle.
Children at Brooke Priory School in Oakham will enjoy a display of vintage cars while pupils at Southfield Primary School in the town will enjoy making a castle.
Residents of Chater Lodge in Ketton will celebrate all week with screenings of former royal weddings, their own wedding videos, a royal quiz, stag and hen nights and a mock wedding service.
Although Rutland County Council has not received any requests to close the roads for street parties there are plenty of places for people to go.
Here is a round-up of some of the events taking place next Friday.
l Staff at the Merry Monk in Oakham are hosting a fancy dress disco in the evening and urging everyone to go along in their wedding dresses and suits. Champagne cocktails will be served.
l Big screen coverage of the wedding will start at The Fox and Hounds at Exton at 10am. Take along a picnic or enjoy the barbecue. There will be a bouncy castle and games in the paddock with live music from 8pm.
l Ketton Sports and Sports and Social Club will serve coffee from 10am during a screening of the wedding ceremony. There will be a bring and buy sale and raffle for charity and a fancy dress competition for the best bride, groom and bridesmaid. Entrance is 50p.
l Greetham Community Centre will host a bring and share lunch after a screening of the ceremony.
l Whissendine sports club will host a party from 2pm to 6pm including games and a competition for the best crown.
l North Luffenham will celebrate with a wedding breakfast of Bucks Fizz and croissants at 10am in the Horse and Panniers and a princes and princesses fancy dress competition at 2pm. Games follow on the Oval at 4pm with a wedding banquet costing £20 at the pub in the evening.
l Caldecott’s village party will take place from 6pm at the village hall with guests encouraged to wear their wedding outfits. Tickets cost £7.50 for food, music and games from Mary on 01572 770242.
l A wedding party will take place at The Falcon Hotel in Uppingham at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from firstname.lastname@example.org
l Watch the wedding at The Sun Inn, Cottesmore, with a free glass of sparkling wine to toast the newlyweds. Pimms, cream teas and a barbecue will be served in the afternoon before a free disco.
l Book your place for brunch at the Marquess of Exeter in Lyddington from 10am. A hog roast follows at 2pm.
l A royal picnic will take place on the village green at Essendine from 4.30pm. Just turn up with a picnic, chairs and rugs. Guests are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue.
