Sacrewell Farm has finally found a name for its new peacock mascot, thanks to help of local school children.

Millard, Guardian of the Mill, was designed last year by Mia Barham, aged seven, from Market Deeping in a competition set by the heritage site.

A graphic designer adapted Mia’s initial drawing, then in May, Sacrewell received more than 100 entries from local schools and visitors to the farm in a competition to name the new mascot.

The winning name was suggested by Felix Higgins, aged 11, from Thornhaugh, and the staff were delighted with his choice.

Marketing executive Megan Allen said: “Millard is old English for Guardian of the Mill, and with our 18th century Grade II listed watermill opening this summer, it was the perfect fit.”

Millard will be the new children’s mascot providing interesting facts about the animals, along with an agricultural guide which can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
