A HOSPICE is set for a cash boost thanks to the efforts of a charity trekker.
Liz Ryan, of Elizabeth Road, Stamford, will walk along the Great Wall of China for nine days in memory of a friend who died of cancer.
She will raise money for the Sue Ryder hospice in Peterborough after her friend Suzy O’Hanlon spent time there.
Mother-of-two Liz said: “I’m really excited to be taking on this challenge. I’ll be thinking of Suzy knowing that every pound I raise will really help Thorpe Hall. It will be a lovely tribute to her.”
Since signing up for the trek last November Liz has been getting fit by walking, jogging and kick boxing four times a week.
She said: “I’ve never done anything like this before but I think I’m now fit enough to do it.
“I was a bit apprehensive about going and not knowing anyone at first, but the closer it gets the more excited I am.”
Liz, who works at Serco in Peterborough, has been in touch with some of the other trekkers who will set off on September 17. She hopes to raise at least £2,000 through her website www.virginmoneygiving.com/LizRyan
Liz added: “Thorpe Hall is wonderful. The staff are really caring and can’t do enough for the patients and their families.”
