Firefighters from Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire attend house fire in Crown Lane, Tinwell




A large fire has caused significant damage to a village home.

At just after 9am this morning (October 13) firefighters from stations in Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire attended a house fire in Crown Lane, Tinwell.

Several calls were made alerting crews of the fire and whilst on route, firefighters saw large plumes of black smoke as they approached the scene from the A1.

One person was on the ground floor when the fire, which is believed to have originated from the first floor, started. All residents of the property were accounted and no serious injuries were reported.

At the property next door, builders helped to rescue three dogs before smoke engulfed the building.

Gregg Ayres, watch manager based in Oakham, said that at this time the fire is being treated as an accident. The cause has not yet been confirmed.

Following the incident, the fire and rescue service has urged people to be vigilant.

Gregg said: "We request that all people check their smoke alarm is working.

"Should people have concerns they should contact their local authority.

"We would like to thank Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire for their services and support."
