Firefighters from three counties respond to burning pile of wood chippings in Skillington

UPDATE: 10pm - The fire is now under control and just one fire appliance remains at the scene.

Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze involving a large pile of wood chippings.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service all sent crews to the fire in Skillington, near Grantham.

The fire was reported at 4.42pm today and is said to involve around 1,400 square metres of chippings.

Fire appliances from Corby Glen, Bourne, Stamford, and Billingborough fire stations were at the scene.

The cause is not currently known.
