Pupils have impressed firefighters based in Oakham with their campaign to ban smoking while driving to improve road safety.
Fourth form GCSE citizenship pupils at Oakham School presented their research to the firefighters and asked them to endorse their campaign.
The group have been collecting signatures on a petition which they will be sending to Rutland MP Alan Duncan asking him to add his voice to those looking to support such a move.
Head of citizenship Viv Lamb said: “Each group of students choose their own topic and this group opted for something very current as the Scottish Parliament are debating enforcing a ban on smoking in cars in Scotland and there has been an attempt to raise support for a bill in the House of Lords.”

Mr Draper said: “I was really impressed with the research they had done and the confidence with which they presented their ideas.
“We do a lot of road safety talks across the county and talk about distraction causing accidents. We will now be able to add in some of the pupils’ research to our safety talks.”
