Residents in Rutland are celebrating five years since a landmark housing transfer which saw more than 1,200 affordable homes transferred to a local housing association.

Spire Homes officially took ownership of Rutland County Council’s housing stock on November 9, 2009, enabling the housing association to invest significantly in improving the properties.

As part of a secret ballot, 87.1 per cent of tenants voted in favour of transfer, with a 75.5 per cent turnout overall – one of the highest ‘Yes’ votes ever recorded in the history of housing transfers.

In the five years since Spire Homes took ownership of the 1,243 properties, the housing association has invested £21 million to carry out a range of improvements inside and around tenants’ homes.
