Chocolatier Jan Hansen is a last minute addition to the Grantham and Stamford parliamentary candidate list, standing for the Lincolnshire Independents.

The owner of Hansen’s Chocolate House in Folkingham has previously run for Lincolnshire county council as a Lincolnshire Independent candidate, but this is the first time he has stood for MP.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Hansen said: “For quite a few years I have been heavily involved in health care matters. I have been campaigning on a national basis, for example after the problems at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust.”

He added: “In Lincolnshire there has been underfunding for years, with cuts affecting the health service. I want the health system to go back to how it was a few decades ago.

“The police force is the lowest funded police force in the country. And Lincolnshire is becoming known as ‘pot-hole’ country.

“The only way to get things to improve is to challenge the powers that be.”
