A charity hopes to see a “terrific” turnout at the traditional Boxing Day meet of Cottesmore Hunt.

The annual gathering will take place in a new location this year, after Oakham Town Council refused to grant the hunt permission to meet at Cutts Close. Rutland County Council stepped in to offer the Catmose car park in Oakham as an alternative location, so the meet will go ahead at 10.45am on December 26.

The hunt usually invites a charity to collect at the meet, and this year members of For Rutland - In Rutland will once again be there hoping for generous donations.

A spokesman for the charity said: “As you can imagine For Rutland-In Rutland is very relieved that the Boxing Day meet is going ahead by the kind invitation of Rutland County Council.

“This is a significant event for us. Our collection raises funds for the local community, helping people and their carers, who suffer with cancer and other long term illnesses and those living with dementia. Also, we have the opportunity to talk on a one to one basis with the spectators, therefore explaining our charitable initiative with Citizens Advice Rutland and enabling us to raise the profile of the charity.

“We are so grateful to the Cottesmore Hunt for this continued support and for putting something back into Rutland for our community and the outlying areas. We hope that on Boxing Day there will be a terrific turnout in support of this traditional association of the Cottesmore Hunt and For Rutland - In Rutland.”

The hunt is expected to leave the car park at 11.25am. The number of hounds has been capped at 10 and no vehicles are allowed.
