Ford's of Oakham relaunches with new look

Rutland’s only department store Ford’s of Oakham relaunched on Sunday with a new look for the new season.

The store in Church Street, Oakham, hosted a special launch party on Sunday to announce new brands, including SuperDry, Weird Fish and Joe Brown’s, as well as a new layout.

The launch day included a guest appearance from mascot Toby Toymaster, live music and a glass of fizz - which customers particularly enjoyed given the bad weather.

Juliana White, who runs Ford’s along with husband Richard, said she was delighted to see new brands in the store, which has a long heritage in Oakham. It is one of the town’s most-established businesses, having served as a funeral director and department store since 1877.

Juliana said: “Considering the footfall wasn’t as good as we were hoping because of the weather, the launch event was still very successful.

“We’re continually growing and adding these brands will hopefully appeal to a wider range of shoppers, alongside our existing lines.”

Juliana also paid tribute to her hard-working team, saying without them the shop wouldn’t be thriving.

She added: “We are very proud to be the county’s premier department store and a key part of Oakham’s thriving rural business network.”

A raffle in aid of the air ambulance will continue until the weekend with three £100 vouchers up for grabs. Tickets are available in store.
