Former county councillor Robert Lacey dies

A FORMER Rutland county councillor has died at the age of 51.

Robert Lacey, who lived in Exton, was a county councillor in Rutland from 1996 to 2003 as a member of the Labour Party.

He was ward member for Exton, Greetham and Stretton and was chairman of the development control and licensing committee.

He died unexpectedly at work on April 23.

Rutland County Council leader Roger Begy (Con) remained a good friend of Mr Lacey’s after he stepped down from the council.

He said: “Rob Lacey was an excellent councillor and totally committed to achieving a great deal.

“He was a very good member and tackled difficult issues with calmness and a smile.

“He was a very good chairman of the development control and licensing committee and he will be missed.

“He was a very good associate.”

Mr Lacey leaves his wife Jane, parents Rosemary and Jim and siblings Anthea, Helen and Edward.

His funeral will be held at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Exton on Tuesday at midday.

The family has asked that there be family flowers only but donations will be given to The Circulation Foundation, Exton Village Hall and Exton Church.
