Cake sale raises £200 to help fight cancer

Four schoolchildren from St Gilbert's are celebrating after their cake sale raised £200 for cancer research.

The sale was the brainchild of Year 9 pupil Jacob Yogasundram, nine, who wanted to raise money to remember his brother, Tom Billington, who died from cancer three years ago.

Jacob enlisted the help of his friends, Oscar Ashley, 10, Miles Garrido, nine, and Noah Richardson, nine, sending out the call for St Gilbert's parents to donate baked cakes to sell at the event.

After an overwhelming response, with all sorts of different cakes generously donated, the boys raised £200 for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research shop manager Alison Welby said: "What a fantastic effort from these young men. I'm very grateful on behalf of Cancer research to receive the outstanding amount of money they raised through their great idea and hard work.Well done boys!"
