The Ryhall and District branch of the Royal British Legion honoured one of its longest serving members with a gold badge award.

Frank Edgeley, of Coppice Road, Ryhall, has been a member of the legion for 44 years, holding the post of secretary for that entire time.

And remarkably, after 42 years he is still the branch’s standard bearer at the sprightly age of 82.

Members met in the Green Dragon, Ryhall, on Monday, after the first meeting of the new year.

Len Layborne, the branch president, presented Frank with his award and thanked him for the many years of dedicated service.

The citation from the County District Headquarters in Leicester commented ‘Mr Edgeley’s commitment of his time and efforts towards the Legion goes far beyond what would normally be expected of a branch volunteer’.
