Independent retailers are being offered free courses to help increase the number of customers and to get them spending more.

The courses are being organised by South Kesteven District Council working with the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce.

Dedicated business adviser Aimee Holland will be delivering courses in Grantham and Stamford with others at Market Deeping for Bourne and the Deepings with strategies to help retailers build a loyal customer base, and not only survive but thrive.

One course will tackle increasing footfall, and the second in each location will look at persuading customers to spend more and thereby increase profit.

Aimee will suggest a range of promotional tools to help retailers transform low footfall into attracting customers in their droves. Increasing customer spend will focus on introducing average transactional values, sales techniques, shop layouts and best sellers.

The first courses are in Grantham starting on June 1, followed by Stamford and Market Deeping.

Aimee will help analyse the type of customers attracted to independent retailers, assessing the local economy, the number of people in town centres, competition from online shopping and even a retailer’s individual running costs as a base for improvement.

David Mather, SKDC Development & Growth Project Manager, said: “Independent retailers are the life blood of our towns and we are committed to helping them in every way we can.

“Every retailer wants more customers, for them to spend more money and generate more profit. People shop all the time so it makes sense for any retailer to build a customer base by applying some vital strategies for success and these courses are designed to tackle exactly that.”
