Babies across Leicestershire are to be given a free dental health kit at their four-month health visitor contact.

The packs include a baby toothbrush, toothpaste and a leaflet and parents will be offered advice on good tooth care habits.

The scheme, spearheaded by Leicestershire County Council’s Public Health department, is being introduced during National Smile Month, which runs until June 18.

Ernie White, county council cabinet member for health, said: “This is an ongoing scheme which we hope will encourage parents to get their children into a good teeth-brushing routine as soon as their pearly whites appear.”

Free toothbrush kits will also be given out at Wriggly Reader sessions, being held at selected libraries, which will focus on healthy teeth.
