A date has been set for the funeral of Rutland County Council leader Roger Begy.

It will take place at St Mary the Virgin Church in Greetham at 10.30am on Monday, February 15.

Countless tributes have been paid to Coun Begy, who died on Monday (February 1) following a short battle with cancer.

The long-standing Conservative ward member for Greetham, Coun Begy led Rutland County Council for more than 12 years and will be greatly missed by all those who worked with him.

His family have once again thanked well-wishers for their messages of support and ask for family flowers only. Donations in memory of Coun Begy can instead be made to Cancer Research UK and Junior Cricket in Rutland. These may be sent care of Fords of Oakham, 8 Church Street, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6AA.

A memorial service will be held at All Saints Church in Oakham at 2pm on March 17.
